Does FormNX support eSignatures?

Yes. FormNX includes a Signature Field element in the form builder. Add it to your form and respondents can sign directly in the browser with a mouse, finger, or stylus โ€” no printing, scanning, or emailing PDFs back and forth.

The Signature field is available on every plan, including Free.

What gets recorded when someone signsโ€‹

A signature on its own is just an image. What makes it useful later is the record stored alongside it.

Recorded automatically with every signed submissionโ€‹

What's storedWhere to find it
The signature image the respondent drewWith the submission, in View Responses
The signer's IP address (including location and network details)Visitor Info
The browser and operating system used to signVisitor Info
A visitor ID identifying the user who submittedVisitor Info
The date and time the submission was receivedWith the submission

You don't need to switch any of these on โ€” they're captured for every submission.

Available, but you need to set them up firstโ€‹

Two things people often assume are automatic are not. Both are worth enabling for agreements and contracts:

  • A unique reference number for each signed document. Turn on Submission Reference Number Generation under Settings โ†’ Form Submission Reference. You can set your own prefix, suffix and starting number, so every signed agreement gets a traceable ID like AGR-1042.
  • A PDF copy of the completed document, emailed on signing. This takes two steps: first create a PDF for the form, then attach that PDF to your notification and responder emails. Once set up, you and the signer each receive an independent, timestamped copy of what was signed โ€” in practice the single most useful thing to have if the terms are ever questioned later.
Recommended setup for agreements and contracts

Signature field (Is Required on) + Submission Reference Number + PDF attached to email. Mark the Signature field as Sensitive Data so it's handled with extra care in submissions.

Controlling who can signโ€‹

For agreements meant for one specific person rather than anyone with the link:

A note on validityโ€‹

FormNX signatures are electronic signatures of the kind usually described as a "simple electronic signature" โ€” the same broad category most e-sign tools operate in, and the category frameworks such as the US ESIGN Act and EU eIDAS refer to. The supporting record described above (signature image, IP address, browser and device, timestamp, and optionally a reference number and a PDF copy held by both parties) is the evidence that backs up a signature if it's ever questioned.

Whether an electronic signature is appropriate depends on your document type and your country โ€” some categories of document are excluded from e-signing in some jurisdictions. This page is general information, not legal advice; if you're signing something high-value or regulated, please confirm the requirements for your own situation.
